The fifth anniversary of the CRE trains (Zhejiang) Caspian International Transport Corridor and the train-receiving ceremony were held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on September 9 local time.
Fariz Aliyev, Head of the Transport Policy Department of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan, said at the event that over the past five years, the volume of transit cargo through Azerbaijan has increased fivefold. "In 2024, 358 CRE trains passed through Azerbaijan. Our goal this year is to increase it to 450 trains, with a medium-term target of 1,000 trains per year."
The Caspian International Transport Corridor, also known as the "Middle Corridor," starts in China, passes through Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan and Georgia, and can be extended to Turkey and European countries. This corridor can significantly shorten both land and sea transport times between China and Europe.
