Exploring New Green Infrastructure Models in Railway Construction

 

  At the construction site of the Tongchuan-Yan'an section of the Xi'an-Yan'an High Speed Railway, undertaken by China Railway Electrification Bureau Group, the project team is exploring new green infrastructure models. Since the commencement of the project, more than 120 solar-powered monitoring devices have been deployed across the line, achieving a self-sufficient power supply. Regular use of water trucks, combined with full coverage of exposed soil, helps curb airborne dust and reduce environmental impact. All transport vehicles are equipped with dustproof tarpaulins to prevent spillage along the way, minimizing the impact on the surrounding environment.

  The Xi'an-Yan'an High Speed Railway runs through the hinterland of the Loess Plateau, passing through several ecologically sensitive areas. The project department has formulated a Special Environmental Protection Plan for Foundation Pit Excavation, optimized construction techniques, and strictly controlled the volume of earthwork excavation and backfill areas, thereby reducing land disturbance intensity.

  In selecting temporary land, the principle of "avoiding farmland and utilizing wasteland" has been adhered to, minimizing the occupation of cultivated land resources. During the construction of key sites such as the Huangling West traction substation, vegetation restoration plans were implemented simultaneously, achieving "restoration upon construction" and ensuring a dynamic balance between engineering works and ecological rehabilitation.

  Technological innovation is the core driving force for green development. In the construction of the Xi'an-Yan'an High Speed Railway, China Railway Electrification Bureau Group has fully leveraged its technical strengths and independently developed a number of intelligent devices. The self-developed modular constant-tension wire-laying vehicle enables high-precision installation of overhead contact system conductors, with an average daily laying distance of 10 km and error controlled within 0.1 mm. The XDT85 pure electric dual-mode rail-road aerial work vehicle, with its zero emissions, low noise and high manoeuvrability, has proved highly effective in tunnel and viaduct construction, truly realizing "green access to tracks and intelligent operations." The application of these advanced machines has enhanced engineering quality and construction efficiency, while significantly reducing resource waste and carbon emissions.
