On August 24, the Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, China's first plateau electrified railway, was highlighted for its contribution to regional socio-economic development since its opening in June 2021. As of July 31 this year, the line had carried a total of 4.159 million passengers and shipped 1.419 million tons of freight, presenting a meaningful achievement for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Xizang autonomous region.

　　The railway runs from Lhasa, the regional capital, to Nyingchi city, known as the "Jiangnan of Tibet," with a total length of 435.48 km and a designed speed of 160 km/h, and is classified as a Class I single-track electrified railway in China. The opening of the line on June 25, 2021 ended the history of no railway in southeastern Tibet, shortening the distance between Tibet and inland areas. Together with the Qinghai-Xizang railway as the main corridor and the Lhasa-Shigatse Railway and Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway as the two wings, Tibet now has a "one trunk and two wings" railway network, further improving connectivity, promoting socio-economic development, and improving livelihoods.

　　On the opening day, the Fuxing plateau dual-power EMU made a stunning debut on the "roof of the world." With the Fuxing EMU train, the journey from Lhasa to Shannan can be completed in as fast as 1 hour and 4 minutes, and from Lhasa to Nyingchi in 3 hours and 48 minutes. The Shannan-Nyingchi trip takes as little as 2 hours and 40 minutes. Compared with road travel, the railway saves nearly half the time from Lhasa to Nyingchi and more than two hours from Shannan to Nyingchi. Taking the train has become a new normal for local residents.
